Vandy Earns NCAA Invite

Commodores score invite to NCAA Regionals

NASHVILLE, Tenn. – The NCAA announced on Monday that the Vanderbilt men’s tennis team has been selected for an NCAA Regional for the first time since the 2018-19 season. The No. 42 Commodores will face Oklahoma State at 9 a.m. CT on Friday in Columbus, Ohio, in the first round of the event.

Vanderbilt has posted a 13-12 record this season, going 4-8 in Southeastern Conference play. The Dores’ highest ranking this spring put them at No. 31. Freshman Danil Panarin is nationally ranked in singles at No. 46, in addition to doubles tandem Jeremie Casabon and Nathan Cox who are ranked 69th.

At the SEC Tournament, Casabon and Cox took down the 23rd-ranked duo from Florida of Nate Bonetto and Aidan Kim alongside Joubert Klopper and Michael Ross who defeated then-No. 69 Tanapatt Nirundorn and Adhithya Ganesan. Panarin fought off No. 52 Jeremy Jin and pulled out a win in singles before the Commodores came up short to the Gators. Still, Panarin’s game earned him the honor of SEC Freshman of the Year–announced last week–in addition to being named to the All-Freshman team and All-SEC second team.

The Dores last made an NCAA Regional in 2019, when they defeated Notre Dame in a first-round match up in Columbus. This will be Vandy’s 18th all-time appearance in the NCAA Tournament.

Individual singles and doubles invitations will be announced by the NCAA in a press release on Tuesday.
