SEC Student-Athlete Advisory Council To Meet This Weekend

Vanderbilt swimming sending two to Birmingham to participate

NASHVILLE, Tenn. — Two individuals from the Vanderbilt swimming program—Gray Almasi and Clare Vetkoetter—are among the twenty-five members of the Southeastern Conference Student-Athlete Advisory Council (SAAC) who will be gathering for an annual meeting Friday and Saturday at the SEC offices in Birmingham.

The meeting will serve as an opportunity for the student-athletes to engage with campus leaders and conference office staff. Along with Student-Athlete Leadership Councils for football and men’s and women’s basketball, SAAC provides a conduit of communication to the conference office on issues related to student-athlete experience, student-athlete wellness and playing rules.

The SEC Football Leadership Council conducted its two-day meeting last weekend, and the Basketball Leadership Councils met during the fall. A joint meeting with SAAC and the Leadership Councils are held during the summer.

Agenda items for the SEC SAAC meeting include a conversation with SEC Commissioner Greg Sankey, a presentation from Podium X to provide the student-athletes with valuable tools to help build their resumes and tell their personal, athletic, and professional story through an online platform, a review of NCAA and SEC legislative items, and a discussion on SAAC campus programming. The group will also hear an update from the NCAA Division I SAAC Executive Board and have a conversation with SEC Chief Medical Advisor Dr. Katie O’Neal.
